The best free social media schedulers

Most tools advertising a free plan are advertising a trial. These seven have a tier that does not expire — and the useful question is what each one takes away to get you there.

Worth knowing: Permanent free tiers only. A 14-day or 30-day trial is not a free plan and is excluded, which rules out Hootsuite, Later, Sprout Social, SocialBee, Post Bridge and Blotato.

The list

  1. 1

    Publer

Three social accounts, ten scheduled posts each, plus a link-in-bio. The most generous free tier here by volume. X is excluded — X charges for API posting and nobody absorbs that for free users.

  2. 2

    Buffer

Three channels with limited scheduling. The most established option, and if three channels is genuinely all you run, there is no reason to move.

  3. 3

    Planable

Fifty created posts, with no time limit — capped by volume rather than by date, which suits irregular posting better than a monthly allowance. No X publishing.

  4. 4

    Eurekuh — that's us

Two channels and 15 posts a month, renewed monthly, with native publishing to any of the ten networks and a link-in-bio page included. Fewer channels than Publer, no feature gates on the ones you have.

  5. 5

    Metricool

One brand, 20 posts a month, 30 days of analytics. The free tier to pick if you want to see numbers rather than just send posts.

  6. 6

    Postiz

Free without limits if you self-host it — and that is a real cost in servers, API app registrations and your own time when a token expires. The cloud version is a 7-day trial.

  7. 7

    Mixpost

Mixpost Lite is open source and free, but only for Facebook Pages, X and Mastodon. The other networks are the $299 one-time Pro licence.

What is not on this list, and why

Hootsuite, Later, Sprout Social, SocialBee, Post Bridge and Blotato run trials rather than free tiers, so none of them are on this list.

Questions

What is the catch with free social media schedulers?+

Usually the channel count, and often X. X bills per post through its API, so almost nobody includes it free — Publer and Planable both exclude it explicitly. Watch for 'free' plans that are really 14-day trials, which is most of them.

Can I schedule to Instagram for free?+

Yes, on several of these, but Instagram itself requires a Business or Creator account for any API publishing. That switch is free in the Instagram app and no tool can work around it.
